Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is a vegetable crop that belongs to the Solanaceae family is appreciated for both fresh consumption and processing. A research is conducted to explore the combining ability and heterosis in double-cross F1 hybrids of tomato to meet the growing demand for high-yielding and high-quality tomato varieties. Employing a full-diallel mating scheme with seven single-cross F1 hybrids, the study focused on evaluating heterosis, combining ability, and identifying superior hybrid combinations for enhanced yield and quality traits.Significant genetic variability across the traits studied, with certain hybrid combinations demonstrating notable heterotic effects were found. The best-performing double-cross hybrid, ‘NTH 3072 × Darsh’, achieved impressive yields of 3.45 kg/plant. It showed highest positive significance for mid, better and commercial heterosis for yield per plant.Combining ability analysis showed a dominant influence of both additive and non- additivegeneticeffects,withtraitssuchasplant height,numberofprimarybranches,andfruit width exhibiting significant general combining ability (GCA) variance. The combination of genotypes rather than the direction of the cross is the primary factor influencing the trait expression. ‘Darsh’ showed the highest positive GCA effect for yield per plant whereas ‘Darsh × Utsav’exhibited the highest positive SCA effect.Yield per plant demonstrated a significant positive correlation with the fruit weight, fruit length, fruit width and number of fruits per plant. The yield was positively influenced directly by fruit weight and number of fruits per plant at both phenotypic and genotypiclevels.Remarkably, 44.00 per cent of the plants displayed transgressive segregants for yield per plant, and the ‘NTH 3072 × Darsh’cross had 80.00 per cent of its segregants exhibiting superior traits.
