Abstract. | ABSTRACT

Phenology is an important component of crop adaptation, where the growth is restricted by water availability and seasonal temperature profile. The present investigation was undertaken to document the genetic variability and to isolate transgressive segregants for morpho-phenological and productivity traits in the F3 population derived from the cross between IPF-4-9 and Khanapur 10 at RARS, Vijayapur during Rabi 2023-24. The population exhibited significant variability not only for fifty per cent flowering (29-91 days) but for days to maturity (67-122 days) also. High variance for plant height, number of pods per plant, days to fifty per cent flowering and days to maturity was recorded. High GCV and PCV for days to fifty per cent flowering (25.51 and 25.74), number of pods per plant (37.99 and 38.29), number of primary branches per plant (25.68 and 25.89) and seed yield per plant (37.20 and 40.02) were evident, in addition, high estimates of heritability coupled with high genetic advance for several important traits. Correlation studies indicated positive significant association of seed yield per plant with the majority of the traits under consideration. The different classes of high yielding transgressive segregants were isolated from the population containing 315 F3 families. The class with early flowering with early maturity had 44 progenies while late flowering with early maturity class consisted of 13 segregants. There were eight transgressive segregants identified to be early flowering with late maturity and nine having late flowering coupled with late maturity. The population with significant variability for important traits opens up the scope for trait specific isolation of genotypes. The promising transgressive segregants may further be stabilised through advancement and careful selection for yield and earliness towards identification of genotypes/ cultivars with climate resilience. |
