Abstract. | Plants have evolved in symbiosis with a plethora of microorganisms that play pivotal roles in their growth and health. Traditional crop breeding practices have largely overlooked these plant-associated microbial communities. However, understanding the interactions between plant genotypes and their associated microbiota is of paramount importance, as they often host distinct microbial communities that influence different plant phenotypes. The research was conducted to isolate and characterize the bacteria from soil and roots of eight chilli genotypes and to study their inoculation effect on growth of chilli genotypes. A total of fifty bacterial isolates were obtained and were screened for plant growth promotional traits. Three isolates K-1I1 (25.93 µg/mg of protein), B-KI1(13.49 µg/mg of protein) and B-KI2 (21.56 µg/mg of protein) exhibited maxiumum phosphorus, potassium and zinc solubilization respectively. Based on their compatibility test and efficiency a microbial consortium was prepared and used for pot culture experiment. The results of pot culture studies showed that the genotypes DC 1007 inoculated with Pseudomonas azotoformans AUDP203 significantly increased the plant growth parameters at 120 DAT viz., plant height (43.86 %), relative chlorophyll content (58.92 %), number of leaves per plant (33.41 %), number of fruits per plant (136.20 %), fruit length (86.83 %) and nutrient uptake in chilli genotypes over uninoculated control. The isolates were not genotype-specific for plant growth attributes. However, strain Pseudomonas azotoformans AUDP203 consistently demonstrated positive results across all genotypes, followed by the consortium. Hence, the present study highlights that the application of efficient bacterial isolates significantly enhanced the growth and yield parameters of chilli over the uninoculated control. |
