ABSTRACT
A field experiment was conducted to study the “Performance of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] cultivars to land configurations” at Agriculture Research Station, Hukkeri, Belagavi, during kharif 2023. The experiment was laid out in strip plot with three replications. The experiment consisted of 12 treatments consisting four main plots different land configurations (M) viz., M1: Broad bed furrow (BBF), M2: Skipping of one row after every three rows and opening a furrow, M3: Skipping of one row after every four rows and opening a furrow, M4: Conventional method and three sub plots cultivars viz. V1: DSb-34 (short duration), V2: JS-335 (medium duration), V3: DSb-21 (long duration). Among the land configuration treatments, BBF (M1) recorded significantly higher seed yield (2498 Kg ha-1), gross returns (` 1,22,411 ha-1), net returns (` 72,374 ha-1), benefit-cost ratio (2.47) and higher soil moisture (39.38 %) which was on par with skipping one row after every three rows and opening a furrow (M2), followed by skipping one row after every four rows and opening a furrow (M3). Among the soybean cultivars, DSb-21 (V3) recorded the highest seed yield (2577 kg ha-1), gross returns (` 1,04,137 ha-1), net returns (` 75,944 ha-1) and benefit-cost ratio (2.58).
Among interaction treatments, the combination of BBF with DSb-21 (M1V3) resulted in the highest soil moisture (43.92 %), seed yield (2779 kg ha-1), gross returns (` 136176 ha-1), net returns (` 86,139 ha-1) and benefit-cost ratio (2.72) which was on par with skipping one row after three rows and opening a furrow combined with DSb-21 (M2V3) followed by skipping one row after four rows and opening a furrow combined with DSb-21 (M3V3). Based on results, BBF with DSb-21 (M1V3) was found to be most profitable combination.
